Does Allderdice have Love for Valentine’s Day?

We live in a country where bad things happen every day, and the 24-hour news cycle we live in makes it hard to escape the depressing news stories. All around us, we hear coverage of murderers and robbers, of evil people and the evil things they do. It’s important to be exposed to these things and understand that we live in an imperfect world, but just as important are the less glamorous stories of empathy and compassion. It can be hard to maneuver through the…

Allderdice’s Talent Show

Taylor Allderdice’s annual talent show took place on Saturday, December 8th. It was a night to be remembered, filled with talent and entertainment alike. What the talent show lacked in structure and organization, it made up for in pure entertainment and laughter. I entered the auditorium with much apprehension about what to expect but was pleasantly surprised by the decent turnout. The stage was teeming with laughter and silliness throughout the night. Many of the acts consisted of aspiring young rappers such as Sovren Grey,…

Transition To The WPIAL

Last year, it was announced that most Allderdice sports teams would leave the city league and join suburban and private school in the WPIALs. Traditionally, WPIALs houses teams that are more competitive than the teams of the City League, which poses a challenge for Allderdice sports teams that are not used to high levels of competition. Girl’s tennis rose to the occasion and came in fourth place in their section. Their new section is known as the hardest section in the city and includes Upper…

Girls Volleyball Faces Change, Familiar Foes

They compete against many of their city league rivals, with a few difficult suburban schools thrown into the mix. Allderdice Math teacher Richard Napoleon has the task of taking a team who lost starting seniors and producing a team that can compete against suburban schools including Baldwin and Keystone Oaks. The team will also compete against old adversaries like Obama, Perry and Brashear. “Losing seniors…

Dice Girls Tennis Takes on WPIAL

By: Cameron Fels With the dissolution of most of the City League, Allderdice’s Girls tennis team entered the WPIAL for the first time this fall. Arriving at preseason training in August, many considered this season to be a transition period. While hopes were high, the girls had little to no experience when it came to playing teams from suburban Pittsburgh. One thing was certain: they were not in Kansas anymore, and adapting to the WPIAL while continuing to play well would be, simply put, quite…

The Next Wiz or Mac? Up-and-Coming Rappers Abundant at Dice

In the wake of two Dice alumni topping the charts, students among a crop of young hip hop/rap artists are jockeying to be the next to make it big.
