JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound and Vintage Trouble: Two Bands Leading a Soul Rock Revolution

In an article by Gapers Block, Ben Taylor, bassist of JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound, described the band Vintage Trouble and his own group as doppelgangers and they certainly do dabble in a similar down and dirty rock ‘n’ soul sound, among other similarities.  Both bands, formed circa 2010, are heirs to the throne that Sly & the Family Stone surrendered in the mid 1970’s through their dissimilation.  That throne is of course a mastery of a style of music that walks the middle…

A$AP Rocky Exceeds Expectations with LONG.LIVE.A$AP

Rakim Mayers, better known by his stage name A$AP Rocky, is a 24 year old Harlem rapper who gained popularity in 2011. Rocky signed a $3 million deal with RCA and quickly produced his mixtape “LIVE.LOVE.A$AP”. It was well received with almost universal acclaim. He later announced his debut studio album, “LONG.LIVE.A$AP”, initially scheduled for release on July 4, 2012. Sigur Rós is the name of Jónsi’s sister, who was born the day the band was formed. Jónsi took the helm as the most creative member and drove Sigur Rós with his unique choice to play the guitar with a cello bow. Accentuated by the powers of reverb and special amplifiers, the band’s signature style has yet…

The movie is an “epic western,” following the journey of Django (Jamie Foxx), a freed slave, and Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a German bounty hunter. Django is bought by Dr. Schultz to help him find three cruel brothers and kill them. After accomplishing this, they continue to…
